Honey-trap: 62-year-old held captive, robbed of cash, car

Mohali: A 62-year-old Chandigarh resident was allegedly honey-trapped through a dating app, held captive in a Zirakpur flat and robbed of cash, valuables and his car. The accused also allegedly forced him to reveal his ATM PIN and withdrew Rs 2 lakh from his bank account.Zirakpur police have registered a case against seven persons and launched an investigation.According to the complaint, the Sector 50-B resident had been chatting with a young woman on a dating app for the past three days. She allegedly invited him to meet her at a flat in a residential society in Zirakpur.The complainant told police that upon reaching the flat, the woman introduced herself as Gagandeep Kaur and took him inside. While they were talking, a man and a woman entered and identified themselves as Gagandeep’s husband, Lakhwinder Singh, and her mother-in-law, Paramjit Kaur. They allegedly began threatening and intimidating him.He alleged that two more men later joined them, while two other women were called to the flat, taking the number of accused to seven. The group allegedly confined him, seized his ATM card, forced him to disclose the PIN and withdrew Rs 2 lakh from his account.The accused also allegedly took away his iPhone 15, wallet containing Aadhaar and PAN cards, Rs 1,500 in cash, car keys and his Hyundai Venue.Before letting him leave, the accused allegedly threatened him with dire consequences if he approached the police.Based on the complaint, Zirakpur police registered a case against Gagandeep Kaur, Lakhwinder Singh, Paramjit Kaur, two unidentified women and two unidentified men under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Sections 308(5), 351(3) and 61(2).Police said efforts are underway to trace the accused. CCTV footage from the area is being examined and further investigation is in progress.
