Navi Mumbai: In a hit-and-run incident on the JNPT road, a 33-year-old woman riding pillion on a scooty with her husband was killed and her husband was hurt after a speeding unidentified car crashed into their scooty from behind near Chinchpada bridge at Karanjade, Panvel on Sunday past midnight, around 2.15 am.The deceased woman was identified as Soman Bhagyawant, residing in Priya Arcade society, sector-2A, Karanjade, Panvel. She was declared brought dead at Panvel sub-district hospital. Her 35-year-old husband Nilesh Bhagyawant, who sustained minor injuries, was treated at the hospital and has been discharged.Acting on his complaint, the Panvel city police have registered an FIR against the driver of an unidentified car by invoking BNS and Motor Vehicles Act sections for rash and negligent driving causing death.API Sachin Powar of Panvel City police station said that the fatal accident occurred when the couple was returning home in Karanjade after visiting a relative admitted at a hospital. The couple had got married about two years ago. While the deceased was a working woman, her husband worked with a private company. The accident occurred at the spot where there is no CCTV camera surveillance. Hence, we will be scanning the footage from the CCTV camera installed about 600 metres from the accident spot, past Chinchpada bridge. As the complainant was unable to note down the car’s registration number and could not tell the car’s colour as well due to no street lights on the road stretch, and the car driver sped away without providing them medical assistance or informing the police, the owners of all the cars which crossed Chinchpada bridge at the time of the accident will be questioned to zero in on the accused car driver.
