Pune: The Wakad police on Sunday claimed to have solved five recent burglary cases with the arrest of a history-sheeter and his three associates. Stolen valuables worth Rs 10.34 lakh were recovered from the accused, police said.The alleged kingpin, Atul Chandrakant Amale (30), a resident of Karve Road in Pune, has 44 criminal cases registered against him at police stations across Maharashtra.A team led by senior police inspector Vitthal Salunkhe traced Amale after identifying him through CCTV footage. Based on the investigation, the police also arrested his alleged accomplices — Mohan Mujumale (38) and Bhimrao Gangavane (24), both residents of Wakad, and Rameshwar Upalle (24) from Latur.Assistant police inspector Ambarish Deshmukh said unidentified men had broken into a flat near Utkarsha Chowk in Wakad during the first week of the year and stolen valuables worth Rs 7.20 lakh.“Our team analysed footage from nearly 150 CCTV cameras in and around the locality before establishing Amale’s identity. He and his associates were subsequently arrested from different parts of the state,” Deshmukh said.During sustained interrogation, the four allegedly confessed to their involvement in five recent burglaries reported in the Wakad area. Police recovered stolen gold jewellery valued at Rs 10.34 lakh from their possession.Deshmukh said further investigation is underway, with assistant police inspector Shriniwas Darade probing the case.
