Chennai: A traffic sub-inspector was injured after being attacked by a history-sheeter during a vehicle check in Perambur on Monday evening. The suspect, identified as Shyam alias Suresh Babu, 21, of Vyasarpadi. He is also a history sheeter under category-C rowdy list.The incident occurred around 5pm on Madhavaram High Road when traffic SI Tharick Ahamed, 32, attached to the Sembium Traffic Enforcement Wing, and constable Rajkumar were conducting checks against one-way traffic violations.According to the complaint, two men approached the checkpoint on a scooter. Police said Shyam, who was riding pillion, kicked the sub-inspector from behind while the vehicle was in motion. In the impact, Tharick Ahamed lost balance and dashed against a parked mini-truck, resulting in a minor injury on his forehead.The scooter rider also lost control and crashed into another vehicle before abandoning the two-wheeler and fleeing the scene. As the suspect also sustained injuries in the incident, an ambulance was called. However, Shyam, who was drunk, refused medical assistance. His family later arrived at the scene and took him away. Based on the cop’s complaint, a case has been registered.
