Ghaziabad: Work has begun on two slip-road ramps that will connect the Hindon Elevated Road on the Indirapuram and Vasundhara sides. The two ramps will be 590m and 620m long, with a carriageway width of 7.5m, and work is expected to be completed in 18 months.Officials said the project, set to cost Rs 90 crore, will provide much-needed connectivity towards the UP Gate and RNE sides. “The design and the DPR have been made. The work has started and we hope to complete it in 18 months,” a GDA official said.Prestressed concrete girders will be used to build the ramps to help endure tension from heavy structural loads by applying compressive forces using stretched steel cables or tendons.“The length of the two ramps will differ – it will be 590m on the Indirapuram side and 620m on the Vasundhara side. The ramps will run parallel to the existing ramps and the gradient will be so designed that the vehicles could maintain a speed of 40 kmph to 50 kmph,” the official said.The official said that precast girders will be used from centre to centre, each girder being 30m apart. The width of the ramps will allow easy manoeuvring of heavy vehicles. Additionally, two 50-m rotaries will be constructed at the ends of the ramps at ground level to enable traffic movement without any hindrance.The Hindon Elevated Road, commissioned in 2018, connects two ends of the city — UP Gate at the Ghazipur Border and Rajnagar Extension — reducing the commuting time from 45 minutes to just 10 minutes. Its utility has grown over the years, as it provides a hassle-free ride by bypassing congested stretches.Currently, the elevated road has two ramps – one in Vasundhara which ascends to the elevated road and merges with traffic from UP Gate to RNE. The second ramp is in Indirapuram’s Kanawani area, going from RNE to the UP Gate side, which allows traffic coming from RNE to descend. However, there are currently no provisions to allow traffic from Vasundhara to move to UP Gate, or traffic from Kanawani to move towards the Indirapuram side.
