NEW DELHI: Delhi-NCR witnessed a sudden change in weather on Sunday, with rain lashing several parts of the region.Hourly forecasts indicate that strong thunderstorms are likely to continue through the afternoon and evening.Current meteorological reports indicate that Delhi is experiencing a mix of high humidity and fluctuating temperatures, highlighting sharp contrasts in weather conditions across the city.While temperatures hovered around 28°C in some areas by early afternoon following rainfall, other parts of the region recorded highs between 34°C and 36°C, with hot and humid conditions continuing to prevail.Due to bad weather, heavy rain, and strong winds at Delhi Airport, 15 flights were diverted on Sunday, including 10 domestic and five international flights. The flights were rerouted to Jaipur and Lucknow, according to airport sources.Delhi airport on Sunday issued a weather advisory, saying flight operations have been affected due to inclement weather in the national capital.In an advisory, the airport said its ground teams are working closely with all stakeholders to ensure smooth and efficient passenger movement despite the disruption.Passengers have been advised to consider alternative modes of transport, including the Delhi Metro, to reach the airport and avoid possible delays. The airport also urged travellers to contact their respective airlines for the latest flight updates before leaving for the airport.Meanwhile, Akasa Air said severe weather conditions in Delhi had disrupted certain flights across its network and urged passengers to remain patient, acknowledging the inconvenience caused to their travel plans.Akasa Air says, “Due to severe weather conditions in Delhi, certain flights across our network have been impacted. We realise that this may inconvenience your travel plans and seek your patience and understanding.”According to the India Meteorological Department, as of 1 pm on Sunday, New Delhi was witnessing pleasant weather, with the temperature at 28°C amid rain and thunderstorms.The weather department said Delhi recorded very light to light rainfall at several places, while isolated areas received moderate showers over the past 24 hours. During the same period, minimum temperatures ranged between 26°C and 29°C, while maximum temperatures settled between 35°C and 36°C.The report further stated that minimum temperatures were above normal at isolated locations, while maximum temperatures remained below normal across several parts of the city.It also noted that southeasterly winds, blowing at speeds of 10–15 kmph, prevailed over Delhi, with gusts reaching up to 37 kmph at Palam. The IMD said there is unlikely to be any significant change in maximum temperatures over the next 24 hours, followed by a gradual decline of 2–3°C over the subsequent two days.(With agency inputs)
