Chandigarh: Chandigarh is staring at a spell of punishing summer heat, with a yellow alert issued for the next three days and no immediate relief in sight. Daytime temperatures are expected to stay well above normal, making afternoons especially harsh for residents. On Monday, the city recorded a maximum temperature of around 38.1°C—about three degrees above the seasonal average—while the minimum settled at 18.6°C. The combination of soaring daytime heat and warming nights is adding to the discomfort.According to the forecast, heatwave conditions are likely to persist across Chandigarh and surrounding areas till midweek, with maximum temperatures expected to hover between 39°C and 41°C. Dry winds and clear skies are continuing to fuel the steady rise in the mercury. While nights remain relatively cooler, meteorologists say they too are gradually turning warmer, offering little respite after long, sweltering days. The weather is expected to remain dry, with clear to partly cloudy skies and no significant rainfall activity on the horizon. Authorities have advised residents to avoid stepping out during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated and take basic precautions against heat-related illnesses. With April already seeing temperatures breach the 40°C mark, the city appears to be heading into an early and prolonged spell of intense summer, leaving residents bracing for tougher days ahead.MSID:: 130396333 413 |
