Hyderabad: With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of temperatures likely to rise further over the next three days, health department officials are on a high alert to tackle potential heat-related illnesses.Health minister Damodar Rajanarasimha on Wednesday directed officials to ensure that all hospitals were fully equipped and prepared to provide immediate treatment to victims of heatstroke and dehydration.“Anticipating a surge in heatwave-related cases, authorities have rolled out precautionary measures across the state. Govt hospitals have been readied with adequate beds, IV fluids and essential medicines to handle emergencies. Oral rehydration solution (ORS) packets are being distributed through auxiliary nurse midwives, ASHA workers and Anganwadi staff to prevent dehydration among vulnerable populations,” an official said.Officials also said that the Met Office has predicted maximum temperatures in several districts to be between 41°C and 44°C over the next three days. “Yellow and orange alerts have been issued in multiple regions, indicating severe heat conditions,” they added.
