Gurgaon: A head constable deployed on escort guard duty died after sustaining a bullet injury from his service carbine near the Sector-29 bridge on Tuesday.The deceased Virender (47) had joined police lines in 2024 and had been posted as an escort guard since. He was rushed to a hospital by police personnel stationed nearby in critical condition but died during treatment, police said.“A bullet was fired from his service carbine, leaving him seriously injured. What he was doing there is also a part of investigation since he was not officially posted at the spot. He had issued his service carbine for duty after which the incident occurred,” said police spokesperson Yashpal.Officers inspected the scene and began investigating the circumstances of the shooting. They are questioning police personnel who were in the area at the time to establish the sequence of events. Investigators are working to determine if the service carbine discharged accidentally or if it was a deliberate shooting targeting Virender.Further action will be taken after investigators establish the circumstances and sequence of events leading to the firing, police said. Virender is survived by his wife and son.
