Kolkata: Calcutta HC on Thursday granted interim relief to Trinamool’s Nandigram candidate Pabitra Kar in an FIR alleging criminal intimidation and robbery.Justice Ajoy Kumar Mukherjee directed that while the probe may continue, no arrest or stringent steps can be taken against the candidate at this stage. The complaint was lodged against Kar by a local resident Buddhadeb Giri, who alleged that Kar and others assaulted him near a Vishnu temple on April 6.In his petition, Kar claimed the charges were false and the non-bailable sections were invoked solely to prevent him from contesting polls. No arrests have been made. Kar could not be contacted at the time of filing the report.
