New Delhi: Taking note of flooding near IGI Airport, Delhi High Court has asked city authorities to examine if a storm water drain can be built along the National Highway-48 stretch between Mahipalpur and Rangpuri village to prevent waterlogging. The highway leads to Gurgaon and is close to the airport, it pointed out.A special bench of Justices Prathiba M Singh and Manmeet PS Arora directed the special task force under Delhi’s chief secretary to hold a meeting with all stakeholders and file a report by the next hearing on Sept 18. The bench said that if required, the task force would also interact with GMR Group, which is part of the consortium running the airport.The stakeholders include Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Delhi Development Authority, National Highways Authority of India, Delhi Jal Board, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and Public Works Department.“Considering the importance of the location of this area, i.e., near the airport and being the access road to the Gurgaon area, issue notice in this matter to the respondents,” the court observed. It was hearing a petition by NGO Social Jurist seeking construction of a functional storm water drainage system along the stretch.The petitioner showed pictures to demonstrate how the area, including the Mahipalpur crossing, gets submerged due to waterlogging during the rainy season.
