Chandigarh: Panjab University (PU) on Friday declared the result of the PU-CET (PG) LLM entrance examination after the Punjab and Haryana high court disposed of a petition challenging the examination, taking note of the university’s revised decision to award one mark each for all 30 questions found to be outside the prescribed syllabus.The result had been kept on hold following the high court’s interim order while the university reconsidered its earlier decision to simply exclude the 30 disputed questions from evaluation. The petition had sought directions to conduct the PU-CET (PG) LLM entrance examination afresh and to quash the university’s July 13 decision to prepare the merit list after deleting the 30 out-of-syllabus questions.During the hearing, the university placed before the court the minutes of a committee meeting held on July 22, in which it reconsidered its earlier decision. The committee observed that deleting the 30 questions would disturb the subject-wise ratio of the examination and unanimously recommended awarding one mark for each of the 30 out-of-syllabus questions to every candidate who appeared for the test. The recommendation was subsequently approved by the vice-chancellor.The high court was informed that every candidate would receive the benefit of one mark for each of the 30 questions. Taking note of the subsequent developments, the Bench said it did not intend to proceed further with the matter and disposed of the petition, while granting liberty to the petitioner to challenge the university’s revised decision, if so advised.The controversy erupted after candidates alleged that nearly one-third of the 100-question entrance paper was outside the notified syllabus. The university had initially resolved to delete the 30 questions from evaluation before revising its stand following the high court’s interim observations. With the disposal of the petition, the declaration of the result has cleared the way for the LLM admission process to proceed.
