Silchar: Hailakandi police on Saturday arrested four active members of an organised cybercrime syndicate while they were attempting to withdraw swindled funds from a bank.The accused were identified as Gourab Roy Chowdhury of Borjarpur, Jahanul Hasan Laskar of Ujankupar, Abu Jahid Laskar of Narayanpur and Mohammadur Hasan Chowdhury of Bhatisangurai in Algapur — all in Hailakandi district.Preliminary investigations revealed that the four were key operatives in the racket, a senior police officer said. Their modus operandi involved using multiple bank accounts to route transactions and launder money siphoned off from victims through online scams.In an ongoing case, investigators tracked down Rs 50,000 allegedly duped from a victim and credited to a bank account controlled by the accused. Acting on specific inputs and technical analysis, a police team laid a trap and arrested the four while they were withdrawing the money.The operation has yielded crucial intelligence regarding the broader network and operational dynamics of the fraud syndicate, an investigating officer added.Asserting a zero-tolerance policy towards cybercrime, Hailakandi police said the investigation is continuing and efforts are on to identify and arrest other members of the gang.
