Gurgaon: Deputy mayor Anoop Singh has resigned as an elected councillor member of MCG’s Finance and Contracts Committee (F&CC), creating a vacancy on the key civic panel. Singh resigned after being appointed deputy mayor on Sept 14, which makes him an F&CC member by virtue of his position.MCG will hold an election on Oct 1 to fill the vacancy. Sources said BJP councillor Ashish Gupta of ward 27 filed his nomination on Monday and is likely to be elected unopposed. MCG will formally confirm the result on Oct 1.Singh had been elected as one of the two councillor members of F&CC on Aug 11, 2025, along with Sundar Singh of ward 1. Both BJP councillors had filed nominations unopposed and were subsequently elected to the panel.F&CC deals with the corporation’s financial and contractual matters, including contracts entered into on its behalf and purchases made by it. Under Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994, the committee comprises six members, including the mayor, two deputy mayors, two members elected by councillors from among themselves and the commissioner.Currently, the committee comprises mayor Raj Rani Malhotra, senior deputy mayor Dharmabir Bhangrola, deputy mayor Anoop Singh, ward 1 councillor Sundar Singh and MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya.“The deputy mayor resigned from the councillor member seat a few days ago since he is already a member of the committee after his appointment as deputy mayor. So, the vacancy has to be filled,” said an MCG official.Officials, however, said there is no provision barring a councillor from holding two positions simultaneously.
