Gujarat High Court stays Saurashtra Cricket Association’s special general body meeting
Gujarat High Court, Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: Gujarat High Court on Tuesday stayed Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) from holding a special general body meeting through a virtual platform amid the demands for appointment of an administrator following a report by former Supreme Court Justice M R Shah.In April, HC had appointed a committee under the chairmanship of Justice Shah to look into the allegations of irregularities in the cricket association made by the petitioner, Porbandar district cricket association. While the report was being awaited, SCA issued a notice on July 23, convening a meeting of its office-bearers and members on Aug 14. Meanwhile, Justice Shah’s report was submitted to HC. Following his recommendations, the petitioner demanded appointment of an administrator and also sought a stay on the Aug 14 meeting. The meeting was convened to discuss financial transparency and accountability, administrative and governance queries, and membership-related concerns. The meeting was also convened to clarify whether the constitution of the association, as approved by SC, can be amended by the association on its own, and it was regarding participation of certain office-bearers and members that could lead to further controversy and mudslinging against other members, and possibility of taking disciplinary actions. When the petitioner demanded a stay on the meeting, SCA agreed to the proposal. Justice Nirzar Desai stayed the meeting and posted further hearing on Aug 31 for hearing on the issue of appointment of an administrator and on other prayers about the next course of action in view of the recommendation made by Justice Shah.
