New Delhi: A 50-year-old security guard died after an iron sliding gate collapsed on him at an under-construction ministry of external affairs (MEA) hostel on KG Marg in central Delhi Sunday.Police have registered a case under Section 106 (causing death by negligence) of BNS.The victim, Dharampal, a contractual employee from Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district, was taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in an unconscious condition after the incident. He later succumbed to his injuries.Police said a PCR call was received at Parliament Street police station around 5.08 pm. During the preliminary inquiry, Dharampal’s co-worker, Brijesh Tiwari (54), told police that both were on duty from 9 am to 9 pm. Around noon, two electricians, contractual employees, were carrying out electrical connection work on the sliding gate when it collapsed on Dharampal.A senior officer said the contractor’s role would be examined. A crime team inspected the spot, and CCTV footage is being analysed to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident.Reacting to the incident, a govt source said, “We are saddened by this unfortunate death on account of an accident. We offer our condolences. The matter is being investigated.”
