Varanasi: GST department deputy commissioner Ambika was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 on Wednesday. She was arrested in Chetganj by UP vigilance establishment’s Varanasi unit.The action was taken following a written complaint filed by Ajay Kumar Maurya, director of a private firm. According to Maurya, the officer demanded Rs. 50,000 to dispose of a file related to the company’s Feb 2023 GST return and state GST assessment.The vigilance establishment conducted a confidential inquiry, in which the allegations were found to be correct. A trap was then laid by the vigilance team. On Wednesday, Ambika allegedly accepted Rs. 50,000 in cash from the complainant, after which the team arrested her.FIR was registered against Ambika at the vigilance establishment’s police station, Varanasi Sector, under relevant sections.
