Grenade hurled at railway labour camp near Assam-Nagaland border; fails to explode

Silchar: Unidentified miscreants allegedly hurled a grenade into a transit labour camp linked to an ongoing railway construction project near the Assam-Nagaland border in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on Monday afternoon, triggering panic at the site.Officials said on Tuesday the incident occurred at Rongaphar Siding in the Dhansiri area of Karbi Anglong, close to the Nagaland border. The grenade landed inside the camp but failed to detonate, leaving workers unharmed and causing no damage to infrastructure.Police and security personnel rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area after the grenade was discovered. A Bomb Disposal Squad from Dergaon was deployed to defuse and neutralise the explosive.Security has been stepped up in and around the construction site, and an investigation is underway to determine the motive and identify those involved. Officials said no group has claimed responsibility so far, and police are examining possible angles, including the involvement of insurgent elements operating in the border region.The incident has renewed security concerns around infrastructure projects in the Assam-Nagaland border areas, where security forces maintain heightened vigil.
