Chandigarh: UT police have got three more days to grill two main accused, Gurtej Singh and Amanpreet, in the grenade blast case outside Punjab BJP headquarters in Sector 37, Chandigarh.After completion of three days of police remand, Sector 39 police produced the three accused, Amanpreet, Gurtej and Hardeep Singh, in a local court, which sent Hardeep Singh to judicial custody for 14 days and the other two to three days’ police remand for further interrogation.Sector 39 police brought nine accused on production warrant from Punjab on April 13. As per the police, Amanpreet lobbed the grenade outside the headquarters, while Gurtej recorded a video of the incident. Hardeep Singh’s role was to receive the grenade that arrived from Pakistan via drone and to distribute money among the accused. Other accused in the case — Balwinder Lal, Jaswir Singh, Charanjit Singh, Rubal Chauhan, Mandeep and Navdeep — have been sent to judicial custody by the court.According to police, during the remand period, Sector 39 police station will take the accused to the crime scene for crime scene recreation. The sequence of events will be videographed, and the accused will also be questioned about the routes and vehicles they used to leave the city after executing the crime.On April 1, 2026, at around 5pm, a low-intensity grenade blast took place outside the Punjab BJP office in Sector 37. Two attackers arrived on a motorcycle. One of them threw a hand grenade while the other recorded the incident on video. No casualties were reported in the blast; however, vehicles parked nearby were damaged. Investigations revealed that the attack was part of Pakistan’s ISI-backed terror module. Handlers based abroad — Baljot Singh alias Jot in Portugal and Harjit Singh Laddi in Germany — were directing the accused.
