Noida: Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority will appoint an agency to roll out a smart paid parking system. Greater Noida currently has multiple parking spaces across commercial areas, residential sectors and markets where vehicles are often parked haphazardly, leading to weak monitoring, safety concerns and encroachment in several areas. This is expected to streamline the system and plug revenue losses. “The proposed system will provide real-time information on available parking spaces, enable cashless payments and improve vehicle safety and monitoring, while also generating revenue,” an official said.Markets in the city see heavy footfall daily, often facing severe congestion due to haphazard parking. Visitors and vendors alike are regularly inconvenienced.Jagat Farm, one of the city’s oldest and busiest local markets, is popular for street food, clothing, electronics and daily-use items. Another market in Alpha 1 is a hub of restaurants, grocery stores, salons and retail shops. Across the township, in Greater Noida West, Gaur City Mall and the surrounding area have emerged as a major shopping and entertainment hub with multiplexes, restaurants and branded outlets. The Authority has invited expressions of interest (EOI) for the project, which will include designing, developing, operating and maintaining these facilities. Companies with at least three years of experience in operating similar services have been invited to participate in the bidding, with a May 28 deadline.“The selected agency will conduct a survey of parking spaces in sectors and prepare details of total surface parking capacity for two-wheelers and four-wheelers. It will also install infrastructure such as barriers, sensors, CCTV cameras, smart signage and automated pay-and-park kiosks,” the official added. The agency will also develop an app and web portal for real-time booking and digital payments. It will deploy manpower for smooth operations and collect user charges. Revenue generated from the new parking system will be shared with the Authority. The parking data will be integrated with the Authority’s integrated command and control centre for monitoring purposes, officials added.Spread over nearly 380 sq km, Greater Noida has emerged as a major urban and industrial township with around 100 sectors and 120 villages. With commercial flight operations from Noida International Airport scheduled to begin on June 15, residential and commercial activities in the region are expected to increase further, making organised parking management crucial.
