Ghaziabad: A 35-year-old man was found dead, soaked in blood, on the terrace of his Noor Nagar home on Sunday morning after his grandfather went upstairs to give him tea. Ashwini, who had been sleeping on the terrace, had deep injuries to his head and face.An FIR under Section 103 (murder) of the BNS was registered against unknown persons at Nandgram police station. Three of Ashwini’s friends were also detained for questioning.Ziauddin Ahmad, ACP (Nandgram), said police received a Dial 112 call at 7.50am about a body lying on a woven cot. “Around 7.30am, the man’s grandfather, Bhim Singh, went up to the terrace to give him tea and found him dead, soaked in blood. He had severe, deep wounds on the head and face,” he added.A forensic team examined the scene, and said a sharp-edged weapon or heavy object had been used to attack Ashwini. The previous night, three friends had dropped Ashwini home after they had been drinking. They allegedly told Singh that Ashwini’s health was deteriorating and they had brought him home safely. But since electricity to Singh’s house has been disconnected, the elderly man could not see in the darkness if his grandson was already injured.Police suspect Ashwini may have had a heated argument with one of his friends while drinking, leading to a fight in which he was injured. The three friends were still under the influence of alcohol when they were detained from their homes, police said.Ashwini lived with his grandfather. His parents, meanwhile, lived nearby in a rented house because they were unhappy with his drinking habit. His father, Mukesh Kumar, later lodged the complaint that led to the FIR. The body was sent for autopsy.
