New Delhi: Delhi govt, along with power discoms, is planning to launch Solarise Delhi, a programme aimed at accelerating rooftop solar adoption across the city by bringing govt agencies, RWAs, financial institutions and vendors onto a common platform.A Delhi govt official said the initiative will build on a model launched in east Delhi, where BYPL has started community-level outreach under the Centre’s PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.While subsidy support is available under the central scheme and Delhi Solar Energy Policy, many households remain hesitant because of limited awareness about vendor selection, financing options, approvals and net metering. Consumers will now be guided — from their initial enquiry to the final commissioning. The process will involve RWAs, market associations, educational institutions, local representatives and financial institutes.The outreach is expected to include workshops, consumer camps, information kiosks, digital campaigns, SMS communication and direct engagement with residents. Officials said the objective is to help households reduce electricity bills and generate clean energy from unused rooftop spaces.Each household can claim a total subsidy of a shade over Rs 1 lakh for installing a 3 kilowatt rooftop solar system by combining PM Surya Ghar with the Delhi policy’s top-up subsidy. Under the central scheme, consumers are eligible for Rs 30,000 for a 1 kW system, Rs 60,000 for a 2 kW system and up to Rs 78,000 for systems of 3 kW and above. Delhi govt provides an additional Rs 10,000 per kW, subject to a maximum of Rs 30,000 for a 3 kW system. In addition to the upfront subsidy, residential consumers are eligible for generation-based incentives under the state policy: Rs 3 per kWh of electricity generated for systems of up to 3 kW and Rs 2 per kWh for 3 kW to 10 kW. Group housing societies and RWAs are entitled to a subsidy of Rs 2,000 per kW for rooftop solar installations serving common facilities.Applicants must be first-time subsidy beneficiaries, have adequate shadow-free rooftop space and possess valid electricity connections. Applications have to be submitted through both PM Surya Ghar and Delhi Solar portals.
