Govt land for tourism units gets Raj revenue dept nod

Jaipur: The revenue department has finalised a scheme for allotment of govt land to tourism projects and forwarded it to the finance department for approval, paving the way for a dedicated land bank for hospitality investments in Rajasthan.Under the proposed scheme, tourism projects with a minimum investment of Rs 50 crore will be eligible for allotment of government land in identified areas. The investment threshold was reduced from the earlier proposed Rs 100 crore following consultations. The proposal also allows existing hotels and resorts to obtain adjoining government land for expansion. Such allotments will be capped at 10% of the project’s privately-owned land and will be made at district-level committee (DLC) rates. In rural areas, land will be allotted at agricultural DLC rates, while residential DLC rates will apply in urban areas. The concession can be availed only once and exclusively for expansion of existing tourism units.A revenue department official said that after clearance from the finance department, the proposal will be sent to the law department for vetting before being notified. The move is aimed at creating a transparent land bank to facilitate large-scale investment in the hospitality sector. Under the Tourism Unit Policy-2024, development authorities, urban improvement trusts, municipal bodies, gram panchayats, the Rajasthan Housing Board, RIICO and district collectors have been tasked with identifying and reserving suitable government land for tourism projects.Details of such land are to be published on the websites of the respective authorities and the tourism department. The identification exercise, however, is yet to begin in most agencies. RIICO is the only agency to have earmarked land so far, identifying Daulatpura for tourism development. The policy also provides for earmarking up to 5% of land in master plans and zonal development plans as tourism facility zones to support future hospitality projects. Officials said the initiative is expected to improve the availability of land for investors through a transparent, online system while accelerating tourism infrastructure development across the state.
