Chandigarh: Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Monday said that the govt was “duty-bound” to consult the Akal Takht on Sikh religious affairs before formulating any laws.He said it had been agreed in an agreement signed between India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, and the Akali leader, Master Tara Singh, in 1959, which was also referred to by the Akal Takht jathedar.Warring said he hoped the govt would heed the Akal Takht’s instructions and implement the amendments and changes as advised by the Takht. He pointed out that even the British rulers did not make any law unilaterally without consulting the Sikh community. The Ludhiana MP also alleged that the Sikh MLAs of the Aam Aadmi Party waited for the party supremo Arvind Kejriwal’s approval before attending the meeting convened by the Akal Takht jathedar. They had been called to the Akal Takht as Sikhs; like Sikh MLAs from other parties, they did not need anybody’s permission. It was a religious matter and not a party, Warring added.MSID:: 132073840 413 |
