New Delhi: A notorious auto-lifter with 19 criminal cases, a seasoned dacoit and a domestic help formed the core of an armed gang that held a businessman’s family captive during a dacoity at their Golf Links bungalow in Lutyens’ Delhi, according to a chargesheet filed by Delhi Police before Patiala House Court on Friday. The 602-page chargesheet lists 35 witnesses and four accused, namely Amit Singh alias Gabbar, Guddu alias Raju Kamat, Raman Kamat and Nihal Hassan. Four others remain absconding and efforts are under way to trace them. The accused have been charged under sections 311 (robbery or dacoity with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of BNS.The chargesheet stated that the domestic help, Raman, who had joined the liquor businessman’s house barely a week before the incident without undergoing police verification, acted as the insider. He secured employment using a fake identity and opened the main gate for the armed gang before they entered the bungalow around 8pm on April 17.Once inside, the masked men held the businessman, his wife, daughter-in-law and minor grandson captive for nearly 15 minutes. Armed with iron rods and other tools, they threatened the family, assaulted them when they resisted and forced them to hand over cash and jewellery worth Rs 25-30 lakh before fleeing through the rear gate. The domestic help specifically took away the businessman’s wife’s mobile phone, as she was the only family member who had his contact details.Guddu is involved in seven cases of robbery and dacoity and had previously worked as a domestic help elsewhere. Amit is a habitual auto-lifter with 19 criminal cases against him. He was roped in to provide logistical support for the crime. The gang had conducted a recce of the locality and identified blind spots in the CCTV network around the residence. The accused knew that vehicles entering the lane were rarely checked and that the house had a rear exit. To avoid attracting attention, the accused reached the area in smaller groups nearly half an hour before the robbery.
