Gold jewellery parcel worth ₹2.6cr goes missing during air cargo transit

Ahmedabad: A complaint has been lodged with Airport Police after a gold jewellery parcel dispatched from Ahmedabad to Bengaluru went missing during air cargo transit. According to the complaint filed on Monday, Balvirsingh Rathod, 37, a resident of New Ranip, is employed as a security manager with Sequel Logistics, a firm engaged in parcel delivery operations across the country. The company has a formal agreement with Titan Ltd to transport consignments of gold and silver jewellery to various locations. In his complaint, Rathod stated that on April 17, Sequel Logistics received multiple jewellery parcels linked to shipment orders from Titan. A total of seven parcels containing gold jewellery were readied for dispatch. Among these was one parcel with an approximate gross weight of 13kg, containing gold jewellery weighing 2.107kg and 512 milligrams, valued at nearly Rs 2.58 crore. He further stated that on April 18 at around 2.15am, all seven parcels were handed over at the cargo facility of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, specifically at X-ray point number 4, for transportation to Bengaluru via Akasa Air. The airline issued an acknowledgement confirming it had received the parcels. The shipment was scheduled to travel on an Akasa Air flight departing Ahmedabad at 4.50am and arriving in Bengaluru at 6.55am. However, the complainant noted that when the Sequel Logistics team in Bengaluru reached to collect the consignment, only six parcels were received. The high-value gold parcel was found missing. Despite repeated follow-ups with Akasa Air authorities in both Ahmedabad and Bengaluru, no clear explanation was provided, while the airline maintained that all seven parcels had been loaded and dispatched. Airport Police have registered a case of criminal breach of trust against Akasa Air in connection with the missing parcel.
