Gold earrings to be worn by Bollywood producer Rhea Kapoor at Met Gala stolen en route India to US

Mumbai: Sahar Police have registered an FIR after a make-up artist, part of Bollywood producer Rhea Kapoor’s team, complained that rented gold jewellery that she was carrying from India to the US for Kapoor to wear at the Met Gala was stolen en route. The gold jewellery was worth Rs 1.3 crore, police said.The 41-year-old complainant said to the police in her statement that she worked with Kapoor for the past seven years. The complainant and the rest of the team were to accompany Kapoor for the event scheduled to be held on April 29.Two pairs of gold earrings were rented from jewellers in India for Kapoor to wear at the event. One of the earrings had emeralds and diamonds set in them and was worth Rs 66 lakh. The other pair had Zambian emeralds set in them and was worth Rs 69 lakh.

The complainant was carrying the two pairs of earrings in a box in her handbag.On April 27, the complainant and the rest of the team boarded a flight from Mumbai International Airport. The first leg of the journey was from Mumbai to Dubai, and the next leg was from Dubai to New York.The team landed in New York City on April 28 around 5.30 pm and headed to a hotel where they checked into their rooms. The complainant then carried the box to hand it over to a team member. But on opening the box, the two pairs of earrings were missing.Subsequently, after reaching Mumbai, the complainant lodged a police complaint of theft of both earrings, collectively valued at Rs 1.35 crore.
