Panaji: Even as Goa prepares to launch its first college of veterinary sciences from the 2026-27 academic year, the state will continue to retain its quota seats at the Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University (MAFSU), Nagpur, for now, officials from the directorate of technical education (DTE) said.Chief minister Pramod Sawant recently announced that the new veterinary college will come up at Curti, Ponda, with an intake capacity of 40 students. Admissions are expected to begin from the upcoming academic year.However, DTE officials said the existing arrangement with MAFSU will continue until Goa govt formally notifies admissions to its own programme and finalises operational details of the new college.Goa currently has 11 seats reserved at MAFSU for the bachelor of veterinary science and animal husbandry (BVSc & AH) programme.“Though Goa govt is starting its own veterinary degree programme, the DTE is yet to receive official intimation regarding admissions to the Curti college. The intimation is expected soon, following which the admission process will begin,” an official said.Admissions to the BVSc & AH programme are based on NEET scores, with MAFSU filling the Goa quota seats through a merit list prepared by the DTE. Officials said the DTE is currently accepting applications and documents from students.
