Give bill for every purchase; maintain queue, HC tells Tasmac

Chennai: Madras high court has directed the DVAC and the Tasmac management to issue necessary directions to all the Tasmac shops in the state to maintain bill books for each and every sale of liquor bottle through the shop.Justice G K Ilanthiraiyan has also directed all Tasmac shops to issue bills to consumer for every sale and to maintain queue while selling.The court passed the interim order on a plea moved by G Devarajan, who wanted the court to direct the authorities to take action against the Tasmac staff who charged above the MRP under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.Devarajan, who arrayed 30 Tasmac retail outlets in Chennai, alleged authorities have failed to act on his six complaints against such overcharging.When the plea came up for hearing, standing counsel for Tasmac submitted that out of 30 shops five were already closed. Insofar as other shops are concerned, he produced the stock cum sale register and shop wise bill summary.Recording the submission, the court said, “It reveals that each and every item of liquor they (Tasmac) are maintaining opening balance, inward bottles, sold out bottles and the amount collected from the consumer. However, the Tasmac shops are not maintaining any bill books, and the consumers are not issued any bills for their respective purchase. Further, the Tasmac authorities have also failed to produce the purchase orders, the date of inward of bottles to the respective shops.The judge then directed the authorities to file a compliance report of the direction to issue bills and to maintain a queue for sale at the outlets by Aug 7.
