Ghaziabad: Fifty electric vehicle (EV) charging stations will be set up at govt offices, public parking lots as well as on arterial roads under the first phase of PM E-Drive scheme. A total of 238 locations across UP have been approved for EV charging points under the scheme.Assistant regional transport officer (administration) Ashok Kumar Srivastava said the stations would get electricity from UPPCL. Srivastava added that there is a provision to set up a station on private land as well. “But in that case, all the details have to be shared before infrastructure s developed by the RTO,” he said.As part of an agreement with Uttar Pradesh Renewable Energy and Operations Limited (UPNEDA), the departments involved with PM E-Drive scheme will receive a revenue share of Rs 1 per unit of electricity consumed at the charging stations.Whether the charging station will cater to two-wheelers, autos, four-wheelers or larger vehicles will depend on the land available at each spot. Under the scheme, 12 sqm will be required for each car, while two-wheelers and three-wheelers will need 6 sqm per vehicle. An e-bus will require 105 sqm. An additional 15 sqm will be needed for a transformer and a distribution panel.“Payments will be made on a monthly basis, and the govt departments concerned will have to make the land available for a period of 10 years. The charging stations will remain open to the public round the cloc. Entry to the premises will have to be free,” the official said.In July, municipal commissioner Vikramaditya Malik told TOI that 100 EV charging stations would come up across the city before winter and work was underway at 13 junctions, including Rajendra Nagar, Bus Adda, Rajnagar Extension, Crossings Republik and Sai Upvan. According to RTO records, the city has over 70,000 EVs, including 39,415 e-rickshaws, 1,525 e-carts, 17,856 e-bikes, 7,143 electric three-wheelers, 4,578 electric four-wheelers and 59 electric buses.
