Gurgaon: Monsoon rain continued to disrupt power supply across Haryana, with the city and Faridabad accounting for more than seven out of every 10 power supply complaints received by Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN).Of the 7,015 complaints logged across the utility’s operational area, 5,081 (72.2%) came from these two NCR districts alone: 2,611 from the city’s two circles (37.2%) and 2,470 from Faridabad (35.2%).The surge comes amid days of incessant rainfall across NCR, which has left electricity infrastructure vulnerable to faults. Overhead line and cable breakdowns accounted for the largest share of complaints — 4,280 (61%) of the total — suggesting that rain and waterlogging may have caused conductors to snap, tree branches to fall on power lines, or triggered precautionary shutdowns to prevent electrical hazards. The MIS report, however, does not explicitly attribute the outages to weather.Despite the volume, the utility reported a near-complete disposal rate. “Of the 7,015 complaints received, 7,012 were closed, leaving only three pending. Gurgaon-1 and Gurgaon-2 reported 100% closure of all complaints, while Faridabad also cleared all complaints received during the day,” said a discom official.Gurgaon-1 recorded the fastest average closure time at one hour, 52 minutes, followed closely by Gurgaon-2 at just over two hours. Faridabad, by contrast, took an average of five hours, 41 minutes — among the longest resolution times recorded.Beyond overhead breakdowns, underground cable faults contributed 1,418 complaints (20%), while normal fuse-off cases accounted for 860. Urban areas generated 82.8% of all complaints, underscoring the greater stress on power infrastructure in cities compared to rural areas. On the consumer-service side, the call centre handled 11,425 inbound calls, answering 10,099 while 1,326 went unanswered. Consumers registered 2,947 complaints and made 6,105 enquiries through the helpline. Among registration channels, IVRS accounted for 43.01%, followed by call centre agents at 36.78% and WhatsApp at 13.9% — pointing to a growing preference for digital platforms over live agents.
