Gorakhpur: The Gorakhpur Development Authority (GDA) is set to develop a nearly 2-km-long “Modern Road” between Champa Devi Park in Goraksh Enclave and Taramandal, introducing a new model of urban road infrastructure in the city. The 1.8-km project, estimated to cost around Rs 18 crore, is expected to begin soon, with the tendering process already completed, officials said.According to GDA Vice-Chairman Abhinav Gopal, the road has been designed to improve connectivity while enhancing the city’s aesthetics and overall urban experience. Its width will vary between 12 and 24 metres, depending on local requirements. To prevent waterlogging, the road will be built using modern engineering standards with proper gradients and one-metre-wide covered drains on both sides for efficient stormwater management. The project also focuses on pedestrian-friendly infrastructure and beautification. It will feature wide footpaths, ornamental lighting, landscaped green spaces and artistic sculptures showcasing Gorakhpur’s cultural heritage.Officials said the initiative is part of the Uttar Pradesh government’s vision of “Bhavya Gorakhpur, Divya Gorakhpur” and is expected to serve as a model for future urban infrastructure projects across eastern Uttar Pradesh.
