GCAS: Gujarat government hands over 5th round of undergraduate admission process to varsities

Ahmedabad: After days of uncertainty over the next phase of undergraduate admissions, Gujarat govt has announced that further admission rounds will now be conducted directly by the universities. The decision comes after four rounds of the centralised Gujarat Common Admission Services (GCAS) process, which left more than 50% of seats vacant across varsities, including Gujarat University. The fifth round will begin with fresh registrations from July 5 to July 14. Students who could not secure admission in earlier rounds, those who did not confirm allotted seats, and candidates who recently passed supplementary exams will be eligible to participate.Under the revised system, universities and affiliated colleges will take full responsibility for preparing and maintaining merit lists. Unlike previous rounds, cut-off marks will not be displayed on the GCAS portal, and institutions will independently manage admissions. Colleges will directly offer seats to students, who can view offers on their login dashboards.Students must accept offers within the stipulated time, complete document verification, and confirm admission through OTP-based validation. Failure to do so will result in cancellation of the offered seat. Candidates are also required to be physically present at the allotted college with necessary documents during the final confirmation stage. The GCAS portal will continue to display available vacancies, updated every six hours. Students can apply to multiple universities and programmes through a single application but must ensure that any changes are resubmitted before deadlines. The move aims to speed up the admission process and fill vacant seats efficiently while giving universities greater control over their intake procedures.
