Guwahati: Garima Saikia Garg, wife of the late singer Zubeen Garg, is battling severe anxiety and depression and has been advised to undergo prolonged rest and psychological support, doctors said on Wednesday. She will be shifted to Mumbai for further medical evaluation and treatment after being discharged from a Guwahati hospital on Thursday.Garima, who has been pursuing the legal fight for justice for her husband along with his sister, Palmee, has reportedly been under considerable emotional distress following the recent bail granted to two accused, Amritprabha Mahanta and Sandipan Garg.Dr Hitesh Baruah, managing director of Nemcare Hospitals, said Garima had been experiencing severe anxiety and depression, along with persistent sleep disturbances, since her admission last Saturday.“She has been unable to get adequate sleep and wakes up abruptly during the night. She manages only two to five hours of sleep. Her condition requires further investigation and appropriate treatment, for which we have decided to refer her to a hospital in Mumbai,” Baruah told TOI.He clarified that her condition was not critical but said she needed at least 15 to 21 days of rest to recover. At a news conference on Tuesday, Baruah said Garima had broken down emotionally during their interaction at the hospital and expressed deep hopelessness about her future. Recalling the conversation, he said she had told him that she felt extremely demoralised and feared that she might not live long.“She is going through immense emotional pain. Along with physical rest, she needs sustained psychological care and counselling,” he said.Appealing to people to respect her need for recovery, Baruah said the affection that Zubeen and Garima had received from the public should now translate into support and understanding.“People have always showered immense love and respect on Zubeen and Garima. We appeal to everyone who cares for them to stand by her during this difficult period and give her the support she needs to recover,” he said.
