Varanasi: In a major crackdown on illegal drug trafficking, a joint team of ANTF Unit Ghazipur and Alinagar police seized over 251 kg of Ganja worth Rs 1.25 crore from a container vehicle near Kataria Service Lane in the Ramnagar Industrial Area in Chandauli district on Sunday evening. Police arrested one smuggler in this connection.Chandauli’s CO (PDDU Nagar) Arun Kumar Singh said that acting on a tip-off, Alinagar police intercepted a container truck and during search, the team found eight white plastic sacks hidden in a secret compartment built above the vehicle’s cabin. The sacks contained 120 packets of cannabis worth around Rs1.25 crore.Cops arrested one Bajrang Kumar Singh (29), of Bokaro in Jharkhand in this connection and also recovered a mobile phone, voter ID card, Aadhaar card, Reliance card, SBI ATM card and cash Rs 900 from his possession.During initial interrogation, the accused told police that the cannabis had been loaded into the vehicle by Mantu Singh of Bokaro to deliver to a person near Ramnagar area in Varanasi. After registering a case under sections of NDPS Act the cops started efforts to trace the persons involved in the wider trafficking network.
