New Delhi: An alleged shooter linked to Gogi-Deepak Boxer gang was arrested after an exchange of fire with Delhi Police in north Delhi’s Wazirabad in the early hours of Thursday.Police said a joint team of Special Task Force (STF) and North district’s Anti-Narcotics Cell had received information about the movement of an armed gang member. Acting on the tip-off, the team laid a trap in Wazirabad during the intervening night of Sept 23 and 24.DCP (North) Niharika Bhatt said the suspect was spotted on a motorcycle around 1.40am. When asked to stop, he allegedly attempted to flee and opened fire at the police team.According to police, the accused fired two rounds, while police returned fire with three shots. One bullet struck the bulletproof jacket of a police officer, who escaped unhurt. The suspect was subsequently overpowered and arrested.The accused was identified as Mohit alias KD (31), a resident of Sonipat in Haryana. Police said he was allegedly associated with Gogi-Deepak Boxer gang as a shooter.During interrogation, Mohit allegedly disclosed that he had come to Delhi to eliminate an associate of Tillu Tajpuriya gang. Investigators suspect he was to meet another associate in Wazirabad who knew the intended target’s whereabouts and routine. The duo allegedly planned to target him during an early-morning walk.Police said Mohit was previously involved in two cases registered at Ganaur police station in 2023, including offences relating to an attempt to commit culpable homicide, criminal intimidation and mischief by fire.Two pistols, four live cartridges and a motorcycle allegedly stolen in a case registered at Inderpuri police station were recovered from his possession.A case has been registered at Wazirabad police station under the provisions of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act. The recovered weapons and other exhibits have been sent for forensic examination.
