Jaipur: Jaipur Junction railway station is set to witness significant decongestion over the next few months as North Western Railway (NWR) fast-tracks a series of infrastructure projects, including a new entry from the Hasanpura side, the redevelopment of Gandhi Nagar railway station, the commissioning of a maintenance depot at Khatipura, and the development of satellite terminals across the city. The projects are aimed at reducing pressure on Jaipur Junction, one of the busiest railway stations in the region, which handles around 268 trains and more than 2.5 lakh passengers daily.Railway officials said work on the Rs 717-crore redevelopment of Jaipur Junction under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is progressing rapidly, with the Hasanpura-side entry nearing completion. The new entrance is expected to improve passenger circulation, provide additional parking space and offer commuters an alternative access point to the station.“The work on the redevelopment of Jaipur Junction and the upgraded Gandhi Nagar railway station is progressing rapidly. The Hasanpura-side entry is in the final stages and will provide passengers with improved amenities, better circulation space and enhanced parking facilities,” an NWR official said.Amit Sudarshan, chief public relations officer, NWR, said Friday that the additional entry would help address congestion at the station’s main entrance.“Passengers arriving at or departing from Jaipur Junction will have an additional access point through the Hasanpura side. This will help decongest the existing entrance and improve passenger movement. We are hopeful of opening these facilities within the next couple of months,” Sudarshan said. The upgraded Gandhi Nagar railway station is expected to play a key role in easing passenger load at Jaipur Junction. Railway officials said the station is being developed as an alternative boarding and deboarding point for passengers travelling on trains to and from Delhi, Amritsar, Jammu, Chandigarh, Kanpur, Agra and several other destinations.According to NWR, another major step in the decongestion plan is the newly developed maintenance depot at Khatipura. Once operational, it will allow the railway zone to shift the origination and termination of several trains away from Jaipur Junction, reducing operational bottlenecks and platform occupancy. At the same time, satellite terminals at Sanganer and Dahar Ka Balaji are being developed to distribute passenger traffic and train operations more evenly across Jaipur’s rail network.Railway authorities believe that the combined impact of the second station entry, the upgraded Gandhi Nagar station, the Khatipura depot and the upcoming satellite terminals will significantly improve passenger convenience and operational efficiency while reducing the burden on Jaipur Junction.
