The rules of modern dating may have changed, but the appeal of a good first conversation remains timeless. Banking on that idea, a speed dating event organised by Hyderabad Times’ Life. Styled Club brought together an enthusiastic group of singles in LB Nagar over the weekend. Through timed conversations, ice-breaker games and playful dating challenges, participants were encouraged to look beyond profiles and first impressions, discovering whether chemistry is easier to find face-to-face than through a screen.

A space to meet new facesFor regular attendees of speed dating events, the format continues to appeal because it combines structured interactions with a relaxed social setting. “I’ve been to other speed dating events before, and I really enjoyed this one,” says Devansh B, 26, a businessman. “The dating bingo was a great addition, and some of the ice-breaker games made it easy to get conversations flowing. Hyderabad has a great mix of people, and events like this are a lovely way to meet new faces, socialise and, if things click, perhaps even find a partner.”

I found the event on Instagram after moving to the city, and it was such a relaxed, friendly atmosphere that everyone just clicked. It felt more like a group of friends hanging out, and I even made some great friends. Meeting people in person makes it so much easier to get a genuine sense of who they are

When conversations come firstFor many participants, the biggest draw wasn’t just the possibility of romance but the chance to meet people in a setting where everyone arrived with the same intention: to connect. “I think events like this are so important, especially for people who are feeling lonely or are new to the city. Everyone comes with the same intention of meeting new people, which creates a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere,” says Nidhi Vashisht, social host. She adds that the ice-breaker games help people move beyond small talk. “With online dating, it’s hard to know if there’s a genuine connection, and you can’t really judge someone’s energy through a screen. Here, you meet face-to-face, so you can see if there’s a spark straight away.”
With conversation prompts replacing endless swiping and games taking the pressure off introductions, the event showed that for many singles, meaningful connections can begin with something as simple as talking

More than just datingSeveral attendees said the event offered something beyond the prospect of romance — an easy way to meet new people. “I found the event on Instagram after moving to the city, and it was such a relaxed, friendly atmosphere that everyone just clicked,” says Sucharitha R, 23, a postgraduate student. “It felt more like a group of friends hanging out, and I even made some great friends. For Harsh Verma, 27, a maritime professional attending his first speed dating event, the evening exceeded expectations. “The games and dating dares were a brilliant way to break the ice, and I ended up making a few new friends too. I was even voted ‘Mr Popular’, which completely surprised me.”What is Life. Styled Club?Life. Styled Club is a curated community for those who don’t follow a lifestyle but style life itself.
