Surat: A teacher from Rander has filed a police complaint alleging theft of jewellery by a woman friend from Mumbai who had stayed at her house for a day, on April 11. The accused allegedly stole four gold rings, a gold bracelet and a gold pendant worth Rs 91,000. Rander police have begun an investigation.Upasana Sequeira, 35, gives tuitions from her home in Rander, while her husband Melvin works for a private company. On April 11, Sequeira’s friend Heay Vyas, 24, arrived from Mumbai and stayed at their house. At around 6.15am, when Sequeira’s husband returned from his night-duty job, the couple stepped out to dispose of garbage and buy coconut water, leaving Vyas alone in the house. When the couple returned, Vyas was ready to leave for Mumbai, and Melvin dropped her off at the railway station on his motorcycle. Later that evening, when Sequeira opened the cupboard, she found the jewellery worth Rs 91,000 missing. Sequeira contacted Vyas but allegedly did not receive a satisfactory response. As no one else had visited their home that day, she approached Rander police and lodged a complaint.
