Kolkata: A low-pressure area formed over north Bay of Bengal on Sunday, which could trigger light, intermittent rain across south Bengal and Kolkata on Monday, said the Met office.Even though Kolkata received 10.6mm of rain, the city’s northern suburbs were lashed by a heavy downpour on Sunday afternoon.While heavy rain could lash some parts of South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, Jhargram and Purulia on Monday, the impact of the low-pressure on Kolkata and its neighbouring districts could be marginal.The monsoon trough passes over Purulia, while a trough from the cyclonic circulation associated with the low-pressure area extends till east Uttar Pradesh across Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh. Due to these conditions, coastal areas of south Bengal are likely to receive rain. “In coastal Bengal, the rain could be accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning strikes,” said the Met department. Heavy rain (7-11 cm) has been predicted in some parts of south Bengal on Monday.
