Dibrugarh: Fresh African swine fever cases have triggered strict containment measures in Tinsukia district.District commissioner Sumit Sattawan on Monday declared Simoluguri village under Margherita revenue circle the epicentre after laboratory tests confirmed ASF among pigs in the area. A 1 km radius around the village has been notified as an infected zone and a 10 km radius as a surveillance zone.Under the National Action Plan for Control, Containment and Eradication of ASF, culling will be carried out in the infected zone from July 21 to 23.The administration has ordered all pork and pork-related shops in Digboi co-district to remain shut for 30 days or until further orders. It has also banned the movement of pigs and pork products to and from other districts and neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh, besides prohibiting pork sales in Digboi markets and outlets.The order, issued under Section 30(2) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, said violators would face action under Section 223 of the BNS.Veterinary officials urged farmers to follow biosecurity protocols, report unusual pig deaths, and avoid unauthorised livestock or feed movement. ASF does not affect humans but can cause heavy losses to pig farmers.
