Hyderabad: Raising concern over people having to approach the Telangana High Court to get police protection orders issued by lower courts enforced, the high court on Wednesday pulled up the police department for failing to act on such orders in several cases.A division bench comprising Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice G M Mohiuddin directed the Telangana director general of police (DGP) to examine systemic delays in executing lower court orders and consider issuing a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to ensure timely police assistance.The issue came up during the hearing of an appeal filed by Peesari Gopaiah, a farmer from Yadadri-Bhongir district, over a 2009 court order relating to fencing of land.Nalla Venkat Reddy, also from the district, had obtained an order from the lower court in Nov 2025 directing the police to provide protection while carrying out the work.Alleging that the police had failed to act, Venkat Reddy approached the high court. A single judge then directed the police to provide protection whenever he sought to put up the fence again.Gopaiah challenged this direction, claiming that Venkat Reddy was using the police to threaten him and interfere with his possession of the land.Venkat Reddy, however, said police protection was needed to implement the lower court’s order and rebuild the damaged boundary wall.The bench observed that delays in carrying out lower court orders were putting unnecessary burden on the courts and leading to more cases. It said people across the state were facing similar problems.The bench directed the govt pleader for Home to discuss the issue with the DGP and work out a system at the district level to deal with such complaints.Meanwhile, the court directed the police to provide protection only in line with the lower court’s order and posted the case for further hearing on September 23.
