Kolkata: Police on Saturday arrested former Trinamool MLA from Naihati, Sanat Dey, in connection with several allegations, including extortion and post-poll violence. He was arrested from Duttapukur early on Saturday and remanded in police custody for six days after being produced in a Barrackpore court later in the day. Police said Dey has been named in several cases related to post-poll violence and assault following the 2021 assembly election. He has also been accused of running an extortion network in the area allegedly at his direction. His name had also surfaced in connection with clashes between BJP and Trinamool supporters in Naihati.Demonstrators at Naihati PS raised “chor, chor” slogans against the former MLA. State minister Arjun Singh, reacting to Dey’s arrest, alleged that people knew him more as an extortionist and a goon than as a Trinamool MLA.
