Former HC bar association honorary secretary escapes firing bid near Kurali

Mohali: Advocate Gagandeep Jammu, former honorary secretary of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association, escaped unhurt after unidentified assailants allegedly opened fire at his vehicle near Kurali on Tuesday.Police said unidentified persons fired at Jammu’s vehicle while he was travelling near Kurali. Three bullet shells were recovered from the spot.SP (investigation) Saurav Jindal said an FIR had been registered against unidentified assailants. “Prima facie, the firing appears to have been done using a .38 bore weapon. The motive is not known yet and is being investigated. The gunshots hit the rear side of the car in which the advocate was travelling,” he said.His father, Balwinder Jammu, said the family had no known enmity with anyone. The incident drew strong reactions from the legal fraternity, with the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association condemning the attack and demanding immediate arrest of those involved.Association president Sartej Singh Narula termed the incident a “cowardly” act. In a statement issued by serving honorary secretary Parampreet Singh Bajwa alias Harry, the association said the attack was aimed at intimidating the legal fraternity and urged authorities to ensure strict action against the accused and provide adequate security to advocates.
