Noida: Five members of a gang who allegedly robbed a silver trader in Greater Noida were arrested in Beta-2 area on Wednesday morning.Ankur, Amit, Sohit Bansal, Himanshu and Kamalkant were arrested in a joint operation of Beta-2 police station, Special Operations Group and Ecotech-1 police station near ATS roundabout.Police recovered the stolen gold and silver jewellery, the car used in the crime and the firearm used to execute the robbery.The accused told police that they specialised in targeting jewellery traders after conducting detailed recces. Kamalkant, police said, spent nearly a week surveying wholesale silver markets in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk and identified traders transporting high-value consignments.Five gold necklaces, two mangalsutras, 29 pendants, 56 women’s rings, 34 men’s rings, 18 lockets and 42 pairs of earrings weighing around 635 grams were recovered.About 12 kg of silver ornaments, a Baleno car without a registration plate, a country-made pistol and two live cartridges were also recovered.A case has been registered under sections 309(4) (robbery), 317(2) (dishonestly receiving stolen property), 127(2) (wrongful confinement) and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of BNS, along with Section 3/25 of the Arms Act.Greater Noida DCP Ravi Shankar Nim said the robbery took place on Aug 2, when armed assailants intercepted the jewellery trader transporting ornaments and fled with a bag containing the valuables.When the trader stopped near Zero Point, the accused allegedly staged a minor collision to force the vehicle to halt. They then threatened the occupants with a firearm, snatched the bag of jewellery and escaped. The gang later regrouped near Junaidpur before fleeing with the loot, police said.Based on the trader’s complaint, a case was registered at Beta-2 police station, and five teams were formed to investigate the crime.
