Fisherman killed, buried in sand by former son-in-law

Rajkot: A 55-year-old fisherman, Govind Makwana, was murdered and his body buried on a beach by his former son-in-law and two accomplices.The incident, driven by a family grudge, took place near the coastal limits of Arambhada village on the night of July 12.According to the FIR filed at the Mithapur police station on Tuesday by the deceased’s brother Arvind, Govind’s daughter, Sangita, divorced the main accused, Jay Parmar, about two months prior. The victim’s family reported that Jay regularly consumed alcohol, suspected his wife’s character, and physically assaulted her, which led to the divorce. Harbouring a deep grudge over the separation, Jay conspired to kill his former father-in-law.On the night of July 12, Govind left his home to fish along the coast as per routine. Jay, along with two associates, Rama Vaghela and Ramesh Parmar, ambushed Govind at the beach, severely beat him with an iron ring worn on the hand. Later, they strangled him with a rope. They buried Govind’s body in the sand to destroy evidence.When Govind failed to return home, his brothers initiated a search and found his abandoned motorcycle parked near bushes by the sea. Sensing foul play due to Jay’s past threats, the family alerted the authorities.The Mithapur police detained the three suspects for questioning, during which they confessed to the murder. The accused led the police to the location on the beach where they had buried him.
