Itanagar: The National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS), based in Dirang, Arunachal Pradesh, has scripted history by completing a first-ascent mountaineering expedition to 20 unclimbed peaks in Ladakh, each towering above 6,000 metres, in a record 23 days.According to a statement issued by the defence PRO on Saturday, the expedition highlights the ministry of defence institution’s capability to execute technically demanding missions across remote and challenging Himalayan terrain.Led by NIMAS director Colonel Ranveer Singh Jamwal, the team made the first-ever ascents of all 20 peaks. This marks the third consecutive world record achieved by the institute over the past three years, cementing its status as a premier hub for adventure sports and expedition leadership.The feat embodies the spirit of the ‘Fit India’ movement, promoting physical fitness, discipline, resilience and teamwork.Officials added that the achievement aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of encouraging youth to explore India’s diverse landscapes and channel adventure into nation-building.The achievement has been hailed as a proud moment for Arunachal Pradesh, the northeast region and the country, demonstrating that youth from remote areas can achieve world-class excellence in adventure sports.
