Chandigarh: Former Punjab deputy chief minister and Member of Parliament Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Friday strongly condemned the firing incident outside the Amritsar residence of former Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh, terming it deeply disturbing and reflective of deteriorating law and order in the state.Randhawa said the incident outside the home of a prominent religious figure was highly condemnable and raised serious concerns over public safety. “The increasing number of such incidents in Punjab raises serious questions about the state’s law and order situation. Criminals appear to have little fear of the law, while ordinary citizens are growing increasingly concerned about their security,” he said.He said the safety of religious and social leaders, as well as the general public, was becoming a matter of concern. “If gunfire can occur outside the residence of a respected religious leader, it raises questions about the efficiency of the police administration,” he added.Randhawa demanded an immediate, impartial and high-level investigation into the incident, urging the police to identify and arrest those responsible at the earliest. The Congress leader said any individual or conspiracy behind the incident must be exposed and dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.
