Chennai: Goods worth several lakh rupees were destroyed after a major fire broke in two adjoining industrial units on Noombal Main Road near Vanagaram in the early hours of Saturday. The blaze was brought under control after a prolonged firefighting operation. No injuries or fatalities were reported.According to officials, the fire erupted suddenly at a paint manufacturing unit and the neighbouring eye-drop manufacturing unit in Noombal. Preliminary investigation suggests that an electrical short circuit may have triggered the blaze. Police, however, are probing the exact cause of the fire.On receiving information, fire and rescue personnel from Maduravoyal, Poonamallee and Virugambakkam stations rushed to the spot with firefighting equipment. People from the units were evacuated safely.The fire destroyed goods and materials worth lakhs of rupees stored in both units. Vanagaram police have registered a case.
