FIR against Noida resident over video ‘abusing’ PM

Noida: A protester purportedly seen in a video abusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi during Cockroach Janata Party sit-in at Jantar Mantar last week was named in a zero FIR filed in Noida, which was transferred to Delhi Police for investigation on Thursday.The complaint that formed the basis of this FIR was filed by Smriti Singh, an Indirapuram resident who is a practising lawyer. She identified the protester as Ruchika Singh. Police said Ruchika is a resident of Uncha Gaon in Faridabad. She also owns a flat at Lotus Zing in Sector 150.Smriti told TOI that she received several videos where Ruchika was allegedly heard abusing the PM. “I checked her social media accounts and talked to some of her friends and received her details. I learnt that she works at a salon and owns a house in Noida. After collecting details, I went to the police and submitted a complaint,” she said.SHO Amit Khare of Expressway police station said the zero FIR was registered against Ruchika under BNS sections 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 353 (1) (statements conducing to public mischief) and 356 (1) (defamation).“The accused resides with her family in Faridabad. Her Lotus Zing flat, purchased in Jan, has remained locked for several months,” the SHO said. “The video is from the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar, so we have transferred the case to Delhi Police ,” he said.
